Romance is so hard to come by in 2020 and I’m so glad I’ve found you online!
Your profile looks great – it seems we have a lot in common and I can already tell we will be perfect together. It’s great that you missed the fact that my online profile was fake and that you have already fallen for my scamming tactics.
I am clearly not from Australia or looking for true love but let’s chat a bit more in private via email, phone or instant messaging. This will make it more convenient for us to communicate in a more personal way so I can charm and fool you a bit further.
Over the past couple of months, I have shown extreme interest in you and declared my non-existent love to you. I am very excited to come meet you in person so we can start our lives together.
It is also great that you’re just as excited to see me as well! However, I will need your help to get on a plane and come see you. For some reason, my credit card is not working on the flight booking website… can you lend me money, or send some gifts over so I can get the funds to come see you as soon as possible? Otherwise, you can just share your full banking or credit card details with me and I’ll take care of the rest. Trust me on this one.
On other occasions, I will send you expensive/valuable items such as a laptop or a smartphone and ask for your help to resend it to my close friends to save on shipping costs. Shipping is very expensive where I live! I might also ask you to buy the items and send them off for me or help me transfer a sum of money to someone. This is a way for us scammers to cover up our money laundering plans.
Oh, did I mention that I recently inherited a huge sum of money from my grandparents and will need your help to transfer it out of my country? I promise you will get a slice of the pie for your trouble – but I might need a little bit of money from you first. Just to cover any additional fees or taxes with this transfer.
I hope I have shown my love for you and you will eventually fall for my scam. Looking forward to receiving your reply soon!
Beware of dating and romance scams online. These scams put you at risk of sharing your personal details with strangers who may use them for criminal activities. This often results in people losing financial savings, properties and even their identities.
Remember: if it sounds too good to be true, then you should give it a pass.
Stay safe, everyone.
